Follow each route to Home and pick the one with the fewest steps.

About this game

Junction Call is a route-planning game. A map shows several ways from Start to Home, each with junctions along the way. You work out which route is shortest and pick it.

It is a small planning problem, like the shortest-path puzzles behind navigation apps. You have to trace routes, count steps and compare them, keeping several options in mind at once.

How to play

  1. Look at the map and find Start and Home.
  2. Follow each route and count its steps.
  3. Pick the route with the fewest steps. The maps get more complicated as you improve.

Tips

  • Trace each route to Home and count its steps.
  • Don't trust the route that looks straightest. Count first.
  • There is also a text version of the map if you prefer to read it.

How it adapts

Kids get simpler maps with fewer junctions. Teens and adults get maps with more branches and closer lengths. The map complexity adjusts to how you play.

Questions

Is there a shortcut to the answer?

Not really. Counting the steps of each route is the reliable way, and the maps are built so that a quick look can be misleading.

What is the text version?

It describes each route in words for players who prefer reading or use a screen reader. It is untimed and is marked in your result.

Are the maps always different?

Yes. Each day has its own set of maps, and there are thousands of possible layouts.

The research behind it

Planning and shortest-path problems are common in problem-solving research. Practice makes you better at this game's kind of route comparison; we don't claim it improves your sense of direction.
